Thank you for visiting Glorywood Acres.
Currently we have a full house of 4 horses, 3 ponies, 2 dogs, 1 barn cat (called BC), 3 house cats and 3 kittens and they have all welcomed us humans to live with them.
I am never surprised to see the different species of animals interact in such ways to show us how community should interact with one another.
Two years ago, our precious loved Cat Belle had 4 kittens, in order to feed the kittens she would go out at night and hunt. One night she did not return. The kittens were only a week or two old. We found her body on the road, she had been killed by a motorist. Our Jack Russell dog, Annie, took right to cleaning the kittens. My partner Kerry fed them and they all survived to become beautiful cats. We kept only one of the litter, who was also recently killed on the highway, she acted like a dog and she also watched television, especially National Geographic animal and bird shows!
Somehow, Annie has appointed herself the newborn nurse of all species that were born on our property and she also took care of our blind and deaf St. Bernard, Roxy. Everytime Roxy went outside, Annie would jump off of the couch and run outdoors with her, gently rubbing up against her to show her the direction to go to get to the grass or if she is thirsty to guide her to the water. When Annie is busy with her mother Snickers defending the place (as Jack Russells do, the cats would look after Roxy, making sure that she does not get to disoriented in the house or outside. Sadly she passed on April 11th, 2006. She was such a sweety, always taught the newcomer dogs to respect the boundaries of our property. Never difficult to care for and we always felt safe when she was around even though she could never hurt a fly!
In foaling, we have never had to worry about the scourers, because again, Annie, would make sure that the foals were kept clean.
When our foals were born, Annie would lie beside them when they lay down sleeping and the mare would feel confident enough to wander because she knew that the foal was safe.
